Precisely Construct Complex Surveys With Ease
The library survey solution is a Novus-developed web application built on a highly flexible and configurable data platform. In conjunction with the Novus support team, this design enables Data Coordinators to tailor surveys exactly as they want, without the significant cost and effort typically required to customize software.

“I can do so many things now that I couldn’t with our prior system, and the support from Novus has been incredible.”
Although most library professionals appreciate the value of the aggregated data from the Public Libraries Survey, many respondents find the process tedious and time-consuming. This burden is partly due to the survey software used. It’s not intuitive enough, not flexible enough, not customizable enough. We are addressing these limitations by introducing software that is ultra-flexible and more self-serviceable than what has previously been available to states.

Take Control Of Look, Feel, And Performance
The Novus solution, which runs on a robust data platform that requires no technical skills to use or administer, is more than just a survey application—it’s a comprehensive survey creation system. This design approach allows us to overcome the inherent limitations of existing library survey products. The result is additional functionality, considerable flexibility, and the ability to easily adapt to year-over-year survey changes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Reporting is one of the strongest features of this platform. In fact, many clients aggregate data from multiple systems into it to take advantage of its reporting and data visualization capabilities. Users can filter and sort the data in many ways, view it in 30+ visual formats, easily generate ad hoc reports and share them with a single click, and create unlimited personalized dashboard views. Exporting to Excel, CSV or PDF is also done with a single click, as is integration with Power BI and Tableau (via native connectors).
The library survey application is one of many built on the Novus AltruLink system, a low-code/no-code data platform designed for web application development. Existing use cases include automating the end-to-end application process for a summer youth employment program, automating the application, lottery and waitlist functions of a school district’s magnet program, and serving as a multi-purpose survey tool for the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.
As much or as little as you want. Administratively, the system is highly self-serviceable. There is very little an administrator cannot do on their own. Alternatively, Novus is staffed with survey designers and administrators who can complete any task on behalf of clients.
Administrators have the flexibility to publish as much information as needed to make the system simpler and more intuitive for users. The platform includes features that make it easy to embed information in various forms, including video, throughout the application. Some of this content is generic to the platform and provided by Novus, while the rest is specific to your instance and needs to be created, maintained, and updated by you.
Email and phone support from the Novus help desk located in East Hartford, CT. This includes direct access to the Novus team that built the survey system. The large majority of our client questions and support requests are answered or resolved the same day, and almost every one within 24 hours.
This is an extremely configurable data platform, with flexibility being the core principle behind its design. The extent to which it can be configured to collect, process and report on data is usually only limited to one’s imagination. It is why client instances of the platform feel and function like custom developed software.
Yes. The creation of this solution was guided by the Connecticut State Library’s Division of Library Development. We also have years of experience developing and enhancing salary & benefits surveys for state municipal leagues such as the Association of Washington Cities and Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.
We first come up with a thorough requirements list to understand the implementation scope of work. Because of the self-serviceable design of our solution, we then determine what aspects of the implementation will be handled by a client and what will be handled by Novus. This produces a one-time implementation cost estimate.
We then charge an all-inclusive annual service & support fee based in part on the implementation’s size and complexity and the amount of support that will be required from us throughout the year.
State Data Coordinators who administer the Public Libraries Survey each year, collecting requested data from local public libraries and reporting these data to IMLS. However, the data platform on which this solution is built can be used for a wide variety of use cases involving data/document collection, automated processing of the collected information, and reporting of the collected information.
